Hans wegner chairs

Bochi Wegner Modern Mid-Century CH07 2014-02-11 Hans J. Wegner is the undisputed master of Danish chair design. Wegner has designed countless chairs, many of which—such as the Hans Wegner Wishbone Chair, Wegner Wing Chair, and Wegner CH07 Shell Chair—are internationally recognized classics. Hans Wegner’s furniture unites form and function; in every design, he places the highest demands on comfort and ergonomics. Hans Wegner produced several chairs of this form - at least seven through the 1940s - with some going into production and some remaining as prototypes. Christian Holmsted Olesen in his book Wegner just one good chair illustrates these and explains the sequence of development that was to lead on to the design of the Wishbone Chair.

Wegner had previously designed furniture with shaped and curved laminated wood for Fritz Hansen - Chair FH1936 and a bench or sofa version FH1937 and the tripartite chair was not the only chair in plywood in the 1949 exhibition because Børge Mogensen, Wegner's colleague and friend, also showed a shell chair. Wegner's fascination with Picasso inspired him to do this sculptural and powerful chair.

Available at Studio Schalling When he designed the first edition of his modest Chinese chair — or China chair — Denmark native Hans Wegner (1914–2007) had been reportedly moved by portraits he’d seen of Danish businessmen relaxing in traditional round-backed Ming dynasty–era chairs. You probably recognize this chair from covers of decor magazines, but also from TV shows like George Clarke’s Ugly House and Lovely House MD. The name Hans J. Christian Holmsted Olesen in his book Wegner just one good chair illustrates these and explains the sequence of development that was to lead on to the design of the Wishbone Chair. Inspired by classical Chinese Ming chairs, Hans Wegner created a series of chairs that helped establish Denmark as an international leader of modern design. The Wishbone Chair is considered to be his most successful design.

And this CH 35 chair is just one of the reasons why. Its sculptural silhouette combined with its rich   'The Master of the Chair' As a driving force behind 'Danish Modern', Hans J. Wegner helped change the general public's view of furniture in the 1950s and  Scores of craftsmen can build you a chair, but Danish icon Hans Wegner earns the rare distinction of having created the Chair. His Round Chair (1949)—with its single, curved back rail forming a parabola of finely shaped wood—was a stylish shot heard round the world, which heralded the arrival of a major design talent and made Danish design a cover story in the United States.
